“Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.” 1 Peter 3:8
The deacons of First Presbyterian Church have been ordained to a ministry of compassion and service. Their calling is to serve the life of the community through witness, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the lonely, the grieving, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, for anyone in distress.
They share with the community its joys, challenges and sorrows through visiting, keeping in touch, and prayer. They see themselves both as listeners who share time with those wishing to talk as well as exercising a ministry of quiet presence. Through outreach they bring the life of the community to those unable to be in church, such as by celebrating communion in homes and hospitals. As a group, they gather regularly to share our witness to the community and to pray for all.
The deacons are committed to the service of Jesus Christ through mirroring his love for all and concern for those in need. They are available at any time.
