The Session met on May 16, 2023. Bob Parker opened with a devotion and prayer.

Pastor JC introduced the topic of Generous Discipleship, including the idea that, “At the core, we want generosity for people, not from people.” The group then shared their understanding that we at First Pres are in the midst of a cultural change, moving from thinking about fund development to people involvement, from scarcity to sufficiency, and from consumers to community members.

We heard from the Finance team, approved the job description of Minister of Intergenerational Faith Formation, and approved a job offer to Rev. Rachel Paige Mastin to assume that role when Rev. Jinny Smanik’s interim is completed. The Session also approved the McSwegin Award to three graduating students at Yale Divinity School. We then discussed the calendar for the summer preaching series.
