To help center our church life around Worship and Connecting Community, we will now celebrate six seasons over the course of the next year.
As the pastor and primary preacher, Pastor JC will choose the texts we will examine in worship over the course of the year. The Session will reflect and meditate on these texts to identify the theme for each season. Then, on each of the six Committee Nights (dates listed below), committees will create and organize educational programming, mission, fellowship, and worship activities in the life of the congregation for the upcoming season—consistent with that season’s theme.
Whether you have been a member of a committee in the past or not, you are invited to participate as you feel called. Rather than hold monthly meetings for each committee, all committees will meet on the same night to plan for the upcoming season. On each Committee Night, we will gather for dinner together and for a time of prayer and theological reflection. Then the committees will break out to do their work. Once their planning is complete, they will submit articles for the Inkling, previewing the season ahead.
This new model—centered around Scripture—will enable creativity and spiritual growth to flourish and will lower barriers to participation in church life. If you have ideas about what you’d like to see happen at church this fall, be sure to come to the Committee Night in August to share your thoughts. You don’t have to be a member to participate on a committee – just come and share and listen as the Spirit leads us all.
