In our current political climate one of the populations most at risk are recent immigrants. There is a nationwide movement called the New Sanctuary Movement. Their purpose is to highlight the plight of immigrants, and to stand with them, protect them, and advocate for them. There are people in our area who are training to learn how to accompany and advocate for immigrants.
Our Session signed the New York New Sanctuary Movement Pledge. Specifically it says:
We covenant to:
- Take a public, moral stand for immigrants’ rights.
- Reveal, through education and advocacy, the actual suffering of immigrants.
- Protect immigrants against hate, workplace discrimination and unjust deportation.
