Each year First Presbyterian Church joins faithful people from around New Haven to help Christian Community Action, the Connecticut Food Bank and Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen create a season of genuine thanksgiving for those who could not otherwise afford it. As in the past, our offering will be
shared between these organizations. This is a major opportunity to give thanks by contributing directly to the well being of our neighbors.
Christian Community Action’s thanksgiving basket program provides holiday abundance to over 2,000 families each year. We’ve been helping financially and with sorting and preparing the baskets for many years. Volunteers are needed for Saturday, Nov. 21 after 1 p.m. and on Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Come for an hour or more. Speak with Ralph Jones to sign up.
The Connecticut Food Bank supports these and many other local efforts by providing food and resources to approximately 600 community-based programs in six of the state’s eight counties: Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London and Windham.
DESK – Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen – serves meals to New Haven’s homeless individuals throughout the week, adding an extra special meal for Thanksgiving Day. DESK needs volunteers onsite Wednesday, November 26 and Thursday, November 27 to help prepare meals, set up the dining room for the Thanksgiving meal, and package and deliver meals to the home-bound, staying a short time to visit. Children with parents are most welcome, and helpful, in both these efforts. SIGN-UP is required. See Ralph Jones.
