Music News – October 2015

First Presbyterian Church will be filled with music in October. On Sunday, October 4, World Communion Sunday, our choir will offer music from South Africa and the prelude and postlude will feature global hymns. The responses that we sing that day will be retained for the remainder of the month, to keep our focus on the world around us.

Then on Reformation Sunday, October 25, at 4:00 PM, our choir will join with the choir of Bethesda Lutheran Church and an orchestra in a performance of J. S. Bach’s Cantata No. 80, Ein feste Burg (A Mighty Fortress). On the program, the cantata will be preceded by an earlier setting of the hymn by Samuel Scheidt, a German composer of two generations before Bach, and by more contemporary music by composers Scott Perkins and Christopher Lee, both active contributors to the music program at Bethesda.… Continue
