A Gift In Memory of Jim Tenney

Those who come to church this Sunday, September 4th—our last summer worship in the Miller Building–you’ll see and hear something surprising and wonderful: a grand piano! Debbie Tenney has generously donated to the church her August Förster German piano, which is 25 years old, and in perfect condition. She is giving the piano in memory of her husband Jim, who devoted many years of service to the church as a bass in our choir. Come to our worship service this Sunday, and hear the new piano in its new home!

Come Sing With the Choir!

Having enjoyed the singing of splendid soloists all summer, we now are approaching the beginning of the fall season, and thus the beginning of the choir year. The choir is an integral part of our community, and we always welcome new singers.

We sing at the 10:45 service from the second Sunday of September through the second Sunday of June every year.

Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 7:00, and/or Sunday mornings at 9:30. If you are new to the church and are thinking about joining us, ask around you to find a choir member, or e-mail patrick.mccreless@yale.edu. It’s a lot of fun to contribute musically to our worship services and we sing a wide variety of music styles.… Continue

Music at FPCNH This Spring

First, many thanks to our choir for their many contributions in Lent, Holy Week, and Easter! Their hard work and devotion enabled them to sing beautifully and movingly throughout the season.

In the coming Sundays (though the exact dates aren’t fixed yet) we will have prelude music from our wonderful cellist, Rachel Daniel, whom most of us heard three times last year; and from Michael Dodds. Michael is a 2015-16 Fellow and Yale’s Institute of Sacred Music, completing a book on Baroque music. He is also a violinist, composer, and conductor, who teaches at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem.… Continue

Many thanks to the members of our choir

Many thanks to the members of our choir, and to our soloists Christy Purnell, Beth Aura Miller, and
Ken Balakrishnan, for their inspiring singing in the Christmas program on Sunday, December 13, and
on Christmas Eve. Thanks also to violinist Sophie Latham and to Ellie Latham for their music in the
Children’s and Youth Service on December 20. We all appreciate all of these musicians for the sharing
of their musical gifts.

As the choir looks forward to January and February, we see that Lent and Easter come very early this year: Ash Wednesday is February 10, Palm Sunday is March 20, and Easter March 27.… Continue
