Lenten Canned Food Drive

We’re building a wall! And when it comes down, it will provide warmth and care to vulnerable people. Will you help us?

From March 12th to April 2nd, bring your canned food donations to the church for a special effort – a literal and symbolic wall of hospitality to strangers and resistance to xenophobic policies. We will build in the sanctuary where everyone can see our progress.

On the final Sunday of our drive, all are welcome to join us after worship. The children of our church will lead us in a liturgy to dismantle the wall and send the cans on their way to nourish people through Christian Community Action.… Continue

Thanksgiving Special Offering

Each year First Presbyterian Church joins faithful people from around New Haven to help Christian Community Action, the Connecticut Food Bank and Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen create a season of genuine thanksgiving for those who could not otherwise afford it. As in the past, our offering will be
shared between these organizations. This is a major opportunity to give thanks by contributing directly to the well being of our neighbors.

Christian Community Action’s thanksgiving basket program provides holiday abundance to over 2,000 families each year. We’ve been helping financially and with sorting and preparing the baskets for many years. Volunteers are needed for Saturday, Nov.… Continue

Massaro Farm CSA Pickups

Help provide fresh food for the hungry!

A few of the Massaro Farm Tuesday afternoon pickups are still looking for volunteers. Check out the sign-up sheet on the Welcome Table or the bulletin board in the Miller Gathering Hall, along with directions.

Sign up for a Tuesday to help us help others have more fresh fruit and vegetables. In addition, Christian Community Action reminds us that they are happy to accept donations of fresh produce.

Contact a Mission Committee member if you would like to donate excess bounty from your home garden.

CCA Food Donations

CCA’s Food Pantry Needs Food!

Canned and dry beans, macaroni and cheese, soups, tuna, peanut butter and jelly are among the items needed.

We collect food items in the wheelbarrow outside the sanctuary each week and deliver it to CCA at the end of each month.

You may also drop food off at the CCA office at 168 Davenport Avenue, New Haven, which is open between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday for donations.

This food pantry served over 2000 households in 2014. With your contributions, we can serve even more in the coming year.
