Alice Goffman’s “On the Run tells, in gripping, hard-won detail, what it’s like to
be trapped on the wrong side of the law with no way out–the situation of so
many young Black Americans today. A brilliant fieldworker and a smart analyst
of what she saw and heard, Goffman has made a lasting contribution to our
understanding of the administration of the law, urban life and race relations”
(Howard Becker, author of Writing for Social Scientists).
Art and Mary Hunt will lead the first of several planned discussions about Goffman’s book on October 13 at 12.30. Bring a brown-bag lunch (drinks and dessert provided by the church) and anticipate a lively discussion about the book, the plight of young African American males, and even Goffman’s own research methodologies, which have recently been called into question.
A sign-up sheet is on the Welcome Table.
