Homework@First

Since January of 2010, H@F has been meeting on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in the Owens Community Building at First Presbyterian Church from 3:00-5:00 pm.

H@F is an educational initiative, partnered with New Haven Reads, which provides literacy and homework support to community children, particularly students from the Worthington Hooker School.

This program grew from our church’s desire to welcome the new Worthington Hooker School to ‘the neighborhood,’ when the school was completed in January. Since that time, our volunteer tutors have served over fifty families as they seek to improve their children’s educational experiences.

Bryce Wiebe is the director of the program. Bryce’s work and the work of the volunteer tutors, has deepened our church’s relationship to the immediate and broader New Haven community, and provides a much needed service to the area.

Homework@First Volunteers

Date Posted: October 11th, 2011 — 8:53am

Homework@First is looking to begin it’s ministry during the month of October. The program will be on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3-5 in the Miller Gathering Hall.

Volunteers are needed to assist students from Worthington Hooker School with their homework and help them flourish academically.

Geniuses are welcome, but a volunteer need only provide their interest, care, and time to be a powerful part of a child’s life.

Please contact Bryce Wiebe at firstpresbyterianchurch@gmail.com if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.
