First Presbyterian Church is part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
What does it mean to be Presbyterian? The most important beliefs of Presbyterians are those shared with other Christians. In worship at First Presbyterian Church, we share this faith by saying the words of a Brief Statement of Faith. It begins:
In life and in death we belong to God.
Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit,
we trust in the one triune God,
the Holy One of Israel,
whom alone we worship and serve.
Presbyterians are distinctive, however, in two major ways. We adhere to a pattern of religious thought known as Reformed Theology. And we organize ourselves through a form of government that stresses the active, representational leadership of both ministers and church members.
